RENOVATION UPDATE

ONGOING CONSTRUCTION
As of March 2013, we started with the breezeways project which includes: concrete repair, coating and painting of the walls and replacement of the railing of the guest room building, including elevator landings, laundry, chapel and water tanks. For this project there will be scaffolding in place and there will be power-washing of the walls to prepare them to be fixed. This project is anticipated to finish by the end of June, 2013.

The vivid terra cotta colors have been specially chosen to complement the new vibrant colors of the building and create a warm yet refreshing atmosphere to add to your vacation experience. Additionally, more straight back chairs have been added for your comfort.

IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION

Fiscal reform results in Environmental Levy.
The current government, as part of its policy, is undertaking many projects to enhance the experience of our visitors. These projects include the Linear Park, the streetcar to improve the traffic flow downtown, the revitalization of Oranjestad, the renovation of all the neighborhoods in Aruba, projects to improve cleanliness of the island and much more. In total there are over 50 projects aimed at raising the quality of life for our guests and residents alike.
In 2010 the government abolished half of the Turn-Over Tax (BBO), from 3% to 1 ½ %, to improve the buying power of both visitors and residents. However, to be able to finance and implement projects to enhance and protect the environment, the government has reached a new fiscal reform in agreement with the business community and the unions. Part of the reform will have an impact on the tourism industry as well. For the hotel and timeshare sector, the government will introduce an “Environmental Levy” as per May 1, 2013, with a fixed fee as follows:
- US$10 per studio
- US$15 per one bedroom
- US$25 per two or three bedrooms
